my story

Born in California, raised in Colorado, and at home wherever I go.

I grew up on fresh air and sunsets behind mountain silhouettes in Denver, and after a brief stint in Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University, I returned to Colorado to pursue a News-Editorial Degree from CU Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. As an undergrad, I completed internships with an online retail startup and in a local newsroom, where I wrote feature-length stories for the specialty publications department. Promptly after graduating, I accepted a job as a Sales & Marketing Assistant at a top-notch and award-winning catering and full-service event planning company.

While my original role was assistant to the six full-time event specialists in the Boulder-based office, my experience in journalism and my natural aptitude for strategic communications allowed me to grow well beyond the initial list of job expectations and duties. I assisted in planning events, but I also became an integral part of the company's two-person marketing team and contributed various written materials ranging from press releases for new products and services, client correspondence, company newsletters and online content. Together with the company's marketing manager, I also created and executed various campaigns, both on and offline, to drive new business and launch new programs.

It was the perfect first job. I learned to listen, to multi-task and prioritize, to communicate thoughtfully and openly with both my superiors and my peers, to get my hands dirty (not always metaphorically, for the record), and to collaborate with great people who had great ideas on how we could improve and expand the business and maintain its relationship with our clients and our community. I also learned how to quickly master new computer programs, organize an office supply closet, and to handle phone calls with strangers with ease, which isn't a skill to be overlooked. I was lucky to have ownership that understood my love of writing and allowed me to pursue it within the context of the company. I was incredibly lucky that that same ownership also understood when I needed to leave the company and explore a personal ambition.

They were supportive when I packed all my belongings and moved to Paris for a year to experience life outside my comfort zone. I continued to contribute written materials for various aspects of the company while I took long walks along the Seine with baguette in-hand, fumbled my way through conversations in French, skied the Alps, toured Italian wine country, ate my weight in Spanish tapas, went sailing in Stockholm and generally made memories that are nothing less than magical.

Now I'm back in the States and looking for my next adventure. I imagine a new city, a new challenging professional track, and new set of courageous people to inspire me will do the trick.
